SCIENCE CLUB

Science Club Purpose and Mission, Goals, Motto, and Membership

Stafford Intermediate’s Science Club was developed with the State TEKS requirements in mind for Science to be an investigative-based learning environment.   The Science Club adheres to investigative-based learning by adding interactive learning to its purpose.    I believe that all learners should have multiple opportunities to explore their environment of General, Physical, Earth and Space, and Life Sciences.   When students are given this opportunity they are more likely to care for and take care of our planet.   Consequently, the purpose and goals of the Science Club are…

The Purpose and Mission

Foster an environment where club members investigate the Sciences (General, Physical, Earth and Space, and Life) through hands-on experiences and experiments for the purpose of preserving our planet and its resources.  Students will conduct research, interviews, and investigations to assist them with this endeavor.

Goals 1-3

  • The first goal of the Science Club is to promote thinking like a scientist” where every member will use critical thinking skills along with scientific process skills to conduct investigations.
  • The second goal is to promote “who’s who in science” where students are knowledgeable of famous past and present scientists and their influences in the areas of the sciences mentioned in the Purpose.   When students are informed about who is in the Sciences they’re more likely to pursue an added interest.
  • The final goal of the Science Club is to “generate ideas and implement an on-going care plan” for the Science Lab’s plants and pets.

Motto

The motto of the Science Club is the same as the Science Lab’s motto of I.S.A.W.

Interactive Science At Work

Membership

Membership is available to all 5th and 6th graders who exhibit leadership, follow the student code of conduct, and have no failing grades.  Students are selected based on the above criteria and interest; the Club is limited to two members per homeroom.   Membership duration is for two months and then new members are selected for the same time period; this will ensure as many new members as possible.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The primary goal of my physical education class is to promote the overall wellness of the child. All children may not have the desire to participate in sports, but EVERY child should be physically active.

This year, as well as every year, I will work to improve the child’s core strength as well as their endurance. The highlight of my class is the Presidential Fitness Test where students will be able to assess themselves by age and gender of their strength, flexibility, and endurance. I want to create a foundation that will benefit the student now and in the future.

Other activities that I have planned for the students will be: Soccer, Volleyball, Jump Rope, Yoga, and Pilates just to name a few. The sports that are offered in the middle and high school, I will try to give them a base so they will have an idea of what to expect in the future. My class will be challenging at times, but will have more rewards in the end.

MUSIC EDUCATION

The music program at Stafford Intermediate School seeks to develop every aspect of creativity in our students.  Children are exposed to different genres of music as well as the music of different cultures.  The arts of dance and theater are also explored in our music classes.  By studying music theory and the history of the songs learned in our lessons, students are able to relate what they learn in music to what they learn in other subject areas.

In the spring, a small group of select students participate in U.I.L. Music Memory.  In preparation for this competition, our students receive intense, in-depth training on various styles of music and musicians.  Students must be able to aurally identify a major work and often a selection of music, and its composer.  We are proud to say that our students uphold that “Spartan Pride” each year they compete!

The Stafford Intermediate choir, “Spartan Singers”, has the privilege of representing our campus in joyous song.  In the fall semester, the choir presents a Winter Musical and in the spring semester the choir, along with our entire campus, presents our annual International Gala. These two major performances, along with a few intermittent performances, showcase the talents of our students.  Choir, however, is not only exposed to music in song.  At least once each semester, Spartan Singers is awarded the opportunity to visit Houston’s fabulous Theater District to participate in workshops, tour the performance centers, and see some of the awesome shows performed.

These components of the general music program are geared towards exposing our students to as much of the fine arts as possible. It is a joy to witness our students continue in some aspect of the arts as they go on to participate in our Middle and High School music and theater programs.

STUDENT COUNCIL

This year the Student Council is more involved than ever in school life. Student Council is a student led group that helps to govern our school and helps to better inform fellow students and teachers as to activities/ ideas that will better school life. We are putting forth more effort in our recycling of aluminum cans. We are also running the school store during lunch times every Wednesday. We have school dances to plan and enjoy.   I enjoy working closely with all those that have been elected as Student Council Representatives and Officers.

YEARBOOK

The yearbook will continue to be a place to showcase student activities throughout the year. There will be individual class pictures and numerous photographs of our school activities, such as school dances, music programs, field trips, karate programs, etc.
